Summer: The Kappa
Digital C Print
20"H x 30"W
The kappa is a water spirit said to inhabit lakes and
rivers.
Not exactly evil, they are
nevertheless prone to causing mischief
such as peeking up women’s kimonos and
pulling unsuspecting children
into the water. Kappas love to drink sake. Their power rests in the water
atop the
bowl-like depression atop their heads.
If
confronted by a kappa,
bow to him. His deep sense of etiquette will force him to bow back, spilling
the water and weakening him.
